The Spirit of Detroit statue has become an icon for The City of Detroit. The magnificent 26 foot tall bronze statue was cast in Oslo, Norway and brought to Detroit by Fredericks in 1958.

A tradition of putting on custom made giant size jerseys on The Spirit of Detroit began with the Detroit Red Wings jersey in 1997 when The Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup. It has since been used to display jerseys of Champion Detroit athletic teams as well as occasionally historic or noteworthy events in Detroit--such as when The Three Tenors made a one time only appearance in Detroit at The old Detroit Tiger Stadium. In that incarnation, The Spirit of Detroit wears, appropriately, a tuxedo--as did the Three Tenors when they performed--and hence the title 'The Fourth Tenor.'
