GARDEN THEATER DETROIT old vintage photo picture print photograph for sale. Vintage old historic DETROIT GARDEN THEATER from 1948 photo picture print for sale. This sepia toned GARDEN THEATER DETROIT, 3929 and 3919 Woodward Avenue, picture photo print for sale is made from a professionally restored Original black and white negative/photograph from 1948 when it was still an operating movie theater. The DETROIT GARDEN THEATER was one of C. Howard Crane's earliest neighborhood theaters in Detroit. It opened in 1912 and could seat 900 people, being one of the largest heaters built in Detroit area at the time. The Detroit Garden Theatre was closed in 1949, soon after this historic photograph was taken. In the 1950's it was used as a nightclub. It went through several incarnations after that, including being known as The Sassy Cat Adult Theater in the early 1970's. It has recently re-opened as a popular Cass Corridor music nightclub venue.

On the marquee this GARDEN THEATER Detroit photo picture print for sale features a noire melodrame titled I, JANE DOE, and the second feature is SON OF BILLY THE KID, with 1940's Cowboy Western hero Lash LaRue and his sidekick Fuzzy St. John. This is an extremely rare Detroit old Movie Theater photograph. It is also an excellent example of repurposing a historic Detroit structure by a very noted architect.

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
