EASTOWN THEATRE DETROIT 1931 photo picture print photograph for sale. This rare vintage old EASTOWN THEATER DETROIT photo picture print photograph for sale is made from a professionally restored Original black and white 1931 DETROIT EASTOWN THEATRE negative photograph. The Detroit EASTOWN THEATER was one of Detroit's great neighborhood theatres when it opened on October 1, 1931. This is a wonderful photo as the last minute touches are put on THE EASTOWN THEATRE in 1931 just prior to the Grande Opening. On the marquee when can see "GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION' featuring a film titled "Sporting Blood" and starring Clark Gable. Federal Electric Sign Company of Woodward Ave. Detroit trucks and service vehicles are parked on the street. You can read their company names on the trucks.

THE EASTOWN THEATER originally sat about 2,500 theater goers. It closed as a movie house during the mid 1960's and the concert venue that it became hosted the royalty of 1960's rock and roll, including such bands as Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and hundreds of other what are now legendary bands. It shut down in 1973 and reopened as a jazz club for a little while and after that a performing arts and live theatre for a short while as well. In the 1990's it hosted raves. It was demolished in November 2015 taking with it the ghost of many film and musical memories for many Detroiters. This is an extremely rare and early photograph of it from 1931.

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
