TELWAY HAMBURGERS Detroit Photo Art Print
by Jan Kaulins
TELWAY HAMBURGERS Detroit photo art print picture photography for sale - The old TELWAY HAMBURGER stand on West Michigan Ave. (US 12) has survived for many years advertising the best and cheapest coffee in Detroit. It is a tribute to a vanishing breed of privately owned hamburger stands that have mostly been replaced by corporate products with which we are all too familiar. This is a very unique artistic portrait of this Detroit landmark. It is not hand colored.
This is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) color photograph that has been created from nine different bracketed digital exposures that have been layered together into one photo and then 'tone mapped' on the computer. Some of the photos are further artistically enhanced by artist/photographer Jan Kaulins. HDR is a relatively new photography technique using multiple exposures designed to emulate the way that light levels in the real world vary over an enormous tonal range, from the brightest area of sunlight to the darkest area in the shadows, which all can't be caputred in a traditional single exposure photograph---hence the layering and the combining of multiple over and under exposures to be able to see all of these areas of light at one time in one photo. As you can see, the effect can be quite stunning and dramatic, sometimes seeming to blur the sense of reality and illusion.

| The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals. |
