OLD VINTAGE BORDEN'S EVAPORATED MILK ghost sign Detroit photo picture print for sale. This rare BORDEN'S EVAPORATED MILK sign was found painted on an exterior wall of a very dilapidated brick building on the southwest side of downtown Detroit. Though Borden's dairy products date back to around the mid 1800's, the process for condensing milk was patented in 1856. Elsie the Cow is the mascot image for this long enduring product. It was never manufactured in Detroit which makes this hand-painted vintage Borden's Evaporated Milk sign quite a rare image in Detroit. You can see by the weathering how long the sign has been up on the wall. It's several stories up on the wall which accounts for the fact that it still exisits and no vandals have damaged it which is often the case with street level signs. This is a rare image and part of the Ghost Signs of Detroit series.

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
